Harmony Energy is recruiting for a new Planning Manager to support our continued growth.

Harmony Energy is one of the UK’s leading and fastest growing owners and operators of utility-scale battery energy storage projects – as well as also being active in the solar and onshore wind sectors.

In addition to having a portfolio of operational assets, the company controls a multi-gigawatt pipeline of projects and employs an in-house team of development and delivery experts. Harmony Energy Income Trust Plc was recently listed on the London Stock Exchange, providing access to a significant amount of capital to vastly accelerate the build-out of our pipeline.

The company is headquartered in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, with offices also in London and Darlington. We also have development teams in France and New Zealand and continue to investigate opportunities in other territories.

Rapid growth of the company has resulted in us looking to expand our team.

About the Role

The Planning Manager will be a key member of the team reporting to the Head of Development and will be responsible for managing a large pipeline of battery storage and solar projects through the planning process; from initial conception all the way through to being ‘shovel ready’, with the addition of providing advice and support to construction teams during build.

The position requires a motivated and enthusiastic individual who can manage competing priorities and communicate well in a fast-paced and high performing team environment. Being able to work proactively, use initiative and remain diligent and organised is an essential part of the job.

The role would be of interest to those that want the challenge and responsibility of contributing towards the successes of a rapidly growing and ambitious company, with the support of an experienced professional team to hone existing skills and grow knowledge of business development.

Key responsibilities
– Provide day to day planning advice to the internal team,
– Support site origination by identifying planning risks and opportunities for new prospects,
– Appoint and manage multi-disciplinary consultancy teams to prepare and submit robust planning applications,
– Support commercial negotiations between the company and landowners/acting agents by advising on planning considerations,
– Coordinate the production of planning drawings and input into site design and layouts,
– Develop relationships with key stakeholders including Local Planning Authorities and statutory bodies,
– Coordinate and manage the discharge of planning conditions using the support of a planning consultant,
– Support work on community engagement and represent the company at exhibitions and public meetings,
– Protect and promote the interests of the company by keeping up to date with the latest planning policy and guidance and where necessary, coordinate representations,
– Manage expenditure and input into planning budget and forecast costs.

Education and Experience
It is desirable for the candidate to have a minimum of 3 – 4 years’ experience in delivering planning for major schemes. Experience within the renewables industry is helpful but not essential. It is more important to demonstrate a strong appreciation of the development process and associated risk management. Likewise, having a professional qualification such as MRICS or MRTPI is desirable – but not essential. Significant relevant experience is equally valued provided the right skillset is demonstrated.

Other Requirements
– Willing to be flexible in respect to day-to-day duties and hours worked,
– The ability to travel using own transport and stay overnight every now and then when visiting sites/stakeholders.
